Manchester United eased into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a win over the Championship side, Derby County courtesy of two late goals.

Having crashed out of the League Cup to a side from the Championship, Bristol City, Jose Mourinho was keen to avoid an unwanted unique double.

Mourinho picked a strong side for this cup-tie and the home side dominated most of the action.

The best chance of the first-half saw Marcus Rashford strike the post with a header from four-yards out, after a delightful cross from Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Unfortunately, the Armenian midfielder did little to impress and was withdrawn at half-time.

The second-half saw Manchester United continue to force Derby back, but Carson, in the Derby goal was in inspired form. One attack saw Juan Mata have a shot parried, Romelu Lukaku seeing the rebound blocked and then Paul Pogba firing the loose ball wide.

Rashford as he had done in the first-half, struck the post again, this time after a pass from Jesse Lingard left the striker with a chance but from an acute angle.

But, just as if it looked the deadlock wouldn`t be broken, Manchester United, with six minutes of normal time left, scored. Lingard, in a rich-vein of scoring, fired home after a decent lay-off from Lukaku.

Derby, pushing forward for a late equaliser, were then caught on the break when with numbers up for a corner, a long clearance from Pogba found Lukaku on the halfway line, the striker exchanged passes with Anthony Martial before shooting past Carson to seal the win for Manchester United.
