Although it would have taken an unusual sequence of events for Manchester United to not qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, Manchester United ensured they got the victory they wanted whilst also finishing top of the group, with fifteen points.

To grab the win though, Manchester United had to come from a goal-down, going into the half-time break trailing 1-0 courtesy of a controversial goal.

Having hit the post earlier, through Marcus Rashford, Manchester United were stunned when a shot from Vitinho was diverted into the net by Dzagoev. The Manchester United defence believed that the player was offside but the officials begged to differ claiming that Daley Blind, who had slid off the pitch, was playing the player onside.

Emerging for the second half though, Manchester United were to score two goals in quick succession.

The first came from Marcus Rashford to level the game up at 1-1 and with the celebrations amongst the far from full Old Trafford barely having died down Romelu Lukaku stuck out a leg to score his thirteenth goal of the season to make it 2-1.

The win ensures Manchester United qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since the tenure of David Moyes back in 2014.

The draw for the knockout stages, at which Manchester United will be seeded, takes place in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday.
