Roy Keane’s agent Michael Kennedy told The Scottish Sun ‘There has been a lot of interest in him and he has a lot to consider. Celtic have not stepped up their interest but we are expecting a call.’

However he also explained that Keane won’t be moving anywhere on the cheap. The player is thought to have been on around £90 000 a week at Manchester United and Kennedy said: ‘Roy is not yet prepared to accept he’ll have to compromise on the situation.’ Although the fact that Keane has stated that he won’t fancy playing for another Premiership team might limit the players options slightly. He said he wasn’t sure if he could stomach visiting Old Trafford and going into the away dressing room.

Celtic chairman Brain Quinn has said that the figures mentioned would be ‘out of the question’ adding ‘We’d have to see what he is proposing and if indeed if he is looking for something at Celtic.’

Kennedy appears to suggest a compromise might be possible by adding: ‘I heard what Brian Quinn said – but we’ll see what happens.’

Keane is also being linked, in a Daily Express story, to a player-manager role at Portsmouth. The article says that Keane is very interested.
