Although, with his Champions League pedigree, Jose Mourinho would have much preferred to be leading Manchester United in a Champions League campaign as opposed to a Europa league campaign, the Special One obviously knew the score when he grabbed the vacancy at Old Trafford.

However, having already placed the Community Shield in the trophy cabinet, Jose will quite fancy going all the way in the Europa League, even more so when winning it guarantees participation in the 2017 / 2018 Champions League, irrespective of where you finish in the Premier League.

With the draw having taken place yesterday (Friday), Jose Mourinho had this to say about what lies ahead,

‘We all know the competition is not the same as the Champions League but to have Manchester United playing against clubs with tradition like Fenerbahce and Feyenoord is good for us.

‘We know that it will be a difficult group, but I think that is a good thing. It is good for the fans and for the players because it will help motivation.’

Sat here in the editorial chair I fully expect Manchester United to win Group A and go on to the latter stages of the competition where some of the more familiar names in European football will await us.
