If Jose Mourinho didn’t rate Eric Bailly he wouldn’t have brought him to Old Trafford would he! However the defender was expected to be seen as ‘one for the future’ but he’s so far, albeit only early days of the season, been more involved than expected.

From these two appearances we’ve seen Bailly’s impressed.

Mourinho’s been pleasantly surprised by how much of an impression his signing from Villarreal this summer has made for United so far with Bailly facing Leicester and Bournemouth.

When speaking ahead of the match with Southampton on Friday, which could well see him lose him place in the side with Chris Smalling available again, Mourinho said.

‘I am surprised he has such a strong personality. A young boy playing in a completely different competition coming from a club without the same pressure as Man Utd. He comes here, first match, stable, comfortable, including with communication because other players speak French and Spanish.’

What have you made of the Ivorian defender so far in his brief United career to date?
