How often have you heard the clamour for youth to be given a chance?
I’d suggest it is a familiar cry when things are not going right for a side.
But, giving youth a chance isn’t always the best idea, when things are not going quite to plan and you need something to change, how often does bringing on a youngster really work?
Okay, you might strike it lucky and get a performance that has the ground buzzing, but, more often than not, the best solution is to turn to a senior player who spends time on the periphery of the squad.
Now that is probably a tad harsh when it comes to the Spanish duo of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, both of whom are quite capable, on their day, of grabbing a place in the starting eleven.
But, I’m sure you get my drift.
Therefore, I find it particularly pleasing that the news vehicle, Sky Sports, are reporting that both are discussing new deals with the club with both their contracts expiring this summer.
Sometimes, it’s a far better plan to rely on the devil you know as opposed to the unknown and I can’t recall Juan or Ander letting United down on too many an occasion.
