“It’s been good to get back out on the pitch” – Williams

Brandon Williams is back on the training pitch after a three-month layoff and the full-back spoke about his delight at being able to do what he loves in an interview with the club’s official website [manutd.com].

Williams has not featured at all for United this season because of injury and he missed the pre-season trip to Thailand and Australia, which meant that Erik ten Hag has not had a proper chance to look at the United number 33 in a match.

The United academy graduate, who has featured 50 times for United and scored one goal [manutd.com] will now get that opportunity because he has been selected in a 29-man squad that is currently working hard in Spain and preparing for two friendly games against La Liga opposition, Cadiz CF and Real Betis as the players get ready for the second half of the season.

“Yeah, it’s been good. It’s been good to get back out on the pitch,” Williams told the club’s official media channels recently. “I miss what I do.

“Seeing the boys train, fly out to countries… Pre-season and stuff by myself it was hard and difficult, but – thanks to the physios and my team-mates and the people behind the scenes who have helped me a lot, helped with my mentality, not just with my body as well – I feel good, I feel great and it’s good to be back now.”

The 22-year-old spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Norwich City and says that loan experience was invaluable because not only was he featuring regularly, making 26 appearances in the Premier League [Transfermarkt.co.uk] but it also allowed him to broaden his horizons and experience living away from his usual surroundings, Manchester.

“Norwich was a fantastic year for me personally, on and off the pitch. I learned a lot off the pitch because it’s so far away from home,” he said.

“Everything’s in Manchester for me, but when I settled in I was fine, I was flying.”

The full-back also says that he picked up an injury at the start and towards the end that impacted his participation for United in the first three months of the season.

“I got an injury towards the end and then I got an injury which has kept me out now, so the start and the end part weren’t that good but the middle definitely helped me as a player.

“It helped me off the pitch, on the pitch and I went there and I got what I wanted, which was gametime.”
