It Was Just like Old Times At Old Trafford, As United Come Back From An Impossible Situation To Rescue A Point

|

Over the years and especially whilst Sir Alex Ferguson was in the managerial hot-seat, Old Trafford has witnessed some tremendous late comebacks.

Some have been initiated from seemingly impossible situations.

Last night, with Manchester United trailing 2-0 to Burnley, with only a matter of minutes left, it looked as if Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was going to suffer the first defeat in his caretaker managerial role at Old Trafford.

With Tom Heaton in superb form, in the Burnley goal, there looked as if there was no way back for Manchester United, despite the team being camped around the Burnley area.

But an indecisive tackle saw Paul Pogba given the chance to score from the penalty spot, in the 87th minute, with the Frenchman not wasting the opportunity.

Then, with the Old Trafford crowd baying for an equaliser, Victor Lindelof duly obliged when he scrambled the ball home in the second minute of stoppage time, sending the support wild with delight.

The draw may have ended Solksjaer’s run of eight straight wins since taking over but a haul of 19 points from the 21 available is a fine return.

After the dust had died on what was a marvellous finish, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, as reported by the BBC, had a few words to say about how the game had panned out, remarking:

“We fought, that wasn’t the problem. We were just too slow in possession in the first half.

“For the first goal, we played our way into trouble. It wasn’t the attitude, the application was too slow and the tempo on the ball wasn’t good enough. But the reaction was good.”

It was, indeed, a remarkable comeback that preserved Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s unbeaten record since taking over the managerial role, however, the only downside is that Arsenal beat Cardiff City and the Gunner snow hold a two-point advantage over Manchester United in the race for the top-four.

But, as we found out last night, things can change in an instant in this wonderful game of ours, let’s see what the weekend brings, shall we!
