Whilst there has been a huge amount of speculation relating to the possibility of Wayne Rooney ending up in the Chinese Super League before their transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night, could another of our squad be set to depart Old Trafford?

According to the media vehicle ESPN, that could be the case.

Our reference source is of the view that Ashley Young could be set to join the Chinese Super League side, Shandong Luneng.

Apparently Shandong Luneng have been looking to sign the versatile 31-year-old for several weeks and are looking to convince the player to make the giant step.

Shandong Luneng are managed by somebody familiar with English football fans, Felix Magath, who had a doomed spell in charge of Fulham Football Club.

It seems Young, who has made just seven starts in all competitions for Manchester United, would be happy to see out the remainder of his contract at Old Trafford if he were to be part of Jose Mourinho`s first-team plans.

But the chance to play regular football, albeit in China, plus the attraction of a very lucrative salary, could see Young opt to leave.

We`ll endeavour to keep a watchful eye on developments and report as deemed necessary.
