This afternoon Manchester United, in the late kick-off, visit Hull City.

Hull have started the season, against all odds, well.

With the former Manchester United favourite, Steve Bruce, having exited the club due to the behind the scenes problems, another with Manchester United connections, Mike Phelan, has taken temporary charge of a squad that is very short in numbers.

But with Hull defying the critics and sitting proudly in the top half of the Premier League, Phelan may have done enough to secure the Hull City job on a permanent basis.

Ahead of the visit of the club for whom he still has enormous affection, Phelan has remarked to the media,

‘I can’t praise the players here enough. There’s a great atmosphere around the place and everyone is smiling.

‘It’s another tough Premier League test for us on Saturday. It will be hard, but the players are relishing the challenge.’

Phelan`s efforts don`t appear to have gone unnoticed by Jose Mourinho with the ‘Special One` remarking at his own pre-match press conference,

‘I hope he gets the job despite losing the match.

‘I think the reality is he’s one of the most successful assistant managers in the country, in the Premier League.

‘Now he has this job and he has managed to motivate and organise the people. Are they defensive? Yes. But that’s the way they have found to get points. I think he deserves the job.’

It should be an interesting match, but one we here at Vital Manchester United would expect Mourinho to claim the three points from.
