Mikael Silvestre has left Manchester United in the summer after nine successful years. The French defender was never a crowd favourite at United but his honesty and undoubted effort should be applauded. Even though he went to Arsenal.

For a variety of reasons I am keen to see him playing against us. It would be a great reunion and I always wanted to see Silvestre playing against Ronaldo and Rooney, to see if he could cope with them.

However, it looks like that we might be deprived of the joy of greeting him again.

“Mikael has a broken nose with an open wound on the side,’ said Wenger.

“Basically he should be capable of playing. But in the next 48 hours I will have to decide what we do. You cannot rule him out and I feel he can play. But I have to decide whether I go for the gamble or not.’

As Gallas is also highly doubtful, the Arsenal defence – which isn’t rock solid at the best of times – could be quite a makeshift one. I very much hope that Silvestre recovers in time as it would be fun seeing him in an Arsenal shirt, trying to contain Berbatov, Ronaldo and co.
