Have United Just Made a Huge Mistake?

Well that was all much ado about nothing wasn`t it or was it?

You wait three months for the January transfer window to open, knowing that although you`ve spent an absolute fortune in the summer, the team is far from being good enough to dominate English football.

You also sit there scanning the treatment room and find that there are so many full-backs out injured that it`s a no-brainer that you really should be looking to bring someone else in during the transfer window.

But, instead, absolutely nothing happens and we`ll continue the rest of the season in the confused, erratic muddle we`ve experienced through the first half of the season.

Now whether the board had decided that under no circumstances were they going to allow Louis van Gaal to spend any more money , knowing there`s a fair chance he`ll be clearing out his draws shortly, we`re not privileged enough to know.

Perhaps, having spent a fortune and with the clubs owners issuing orders for savings to be made in all departments, the emphasis is on saving any transfer funds Manchester united do have put to one side, for the new incumbent of the managerial role (Mourinho) when Louis van Gaal finally departs, either forcibly or through his own choice.

But, if that is the case, it`s a risky avenue to go down, a failure to secure Champions League football for next season will hit Manchester United hard and could very well influence which players (and even which manager) decide to pick up the United chalice.

Which leads me on to ask the big question – where we right to swerve the transfer window when it comes to purchases, or have we just by-passed a golden opportunity to address a couple of problematic areas in the side that could have ramifications down the line.

Sat here in the editorial chair I`d be interested to hear your opinions.
