Eidur Gudjohnsen is not looking to leave Barcelona at all costs and hasn’t heard anything but rumours about United’s reported interest in him.

A vast array of strikers have been linked to United in recent weeks, a familiar name included: ex-Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen were reported to be on his way to Old Trafford.

However, first Barcelona firmly denied that any transfers would be completed or even negotiated before the Primera Division ends this weekend. Secondly, Gudjonhnsen’s father came out saying that the Reds did not show interest in the Iceland international.

“Honestly, I have not heard anything from Manchester United. I can confirm that. It’s only speculation,’ Gudjohnsen senior said.

‘I think the club will decide many things after the weekend and what is going to happen after the game. Then, maybe you might see a clearer picture of what`s going to happen. But at this stage, nothing.”

He added that though his son would have loved to play more often, he though he had done well when called upon after the serious injury to Samuel Eto’o that kept him sidelined for five months. The Cameroon forward is back and linked with a host of European giants but if he stays, Guddy will have little chance to prove his worth.

However, that’s what he’d like to do, according to his father.

‘He hasn`t played so much after Christmas, but he came in before Christmas when Eto`o was injured and did quite well.

‘So he actually wants to have another chance next season to prove himself even more.”
