Sir Alex Ferguson has tried to play down the impact having to applaud Chelsea out on to the Old Trafford pitch at the end of last season. But the memory is still fresh in Ryan Giggs’ mind – enough to heighten his determination to avoid having to endure more Chelsea celebrations if the Blues get that point.

Giggs: ‘I do not want to be on the pitch when they are jumping around celebrating winning the league.

‘We had to clap them on to the pitch last year and though they were worthy champions, it was not a nice feeling.

‘Hopefully we can stop the party this weekend by coming away with the three points.’
