Ryan Giggs and Wes Brown are both set to open talks woth the club about a new contract as neither of them wish to leave.

Giggs, who will turn 34 this November might get a one-year-extension whereas it’s yet unknown what kind of deal would be offered to Wes Brown, 28 this year.

However, chief executive David Gill are confident that the duo will stay at Old Trafford.

‘We haven’t spoken to Ryan yet. We’re always relaxed about Ryan because we trust him and he trusts us,’ he said.

‘I’m sure we’ll look at it but we haven’t discussed it yet.’

‘Wes in his final year and we will sit down with him to discuss an extension,’ he added.

‘We will be looking to extend his contract.’

They will not have a difficult task: despite being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, Brown claims he does not want to go anywhere.

‘I love playing for United and talk of me leaving this summer was rubbish.

‘I have never thought of going anywhere else because it would be a step down. Having that conversation with the manager is something I dread.’

Giggs was always going to stay so that’s not a surprise and I think that some people are unfair on Brown. He’s a fine right-back on his day and is useful as a centre-back though I admit sometimes his lack of concentration cost the team.

He’s still good cover in defence and as a local lad, it’s no surprise he wants to stay.
