It’s sure now: Gary Neville’s season ended in March.

The United captain sustained an injury in the third month of the year and it just wouldn’t budge since that. Gary will miss the FA Cup final though he would have deserved to lead the team out onto the pitch of the new Wembley.

The 32-year-old missed some memorable games since his last one, the 4-1 thrashing of Bolton in which he had played little part, having come off after 10 minutes. He was absent from our memorable victories over Roma and Milan but there are positives, too – he wasn’t involved in that shambles of a game at San Siro.

Neville, with his quiet consistency, played a great role in our successes this season but he can’t be there to reap the rewards. Of course, he’s won seven Premier League titles and three FA Cups so he might survive, I think!

Let’s hope that this ‘exploratory operation’ will work and his return won’t be delayed any further so nothing will bother his pre-season preparations.
