Gary Neville suffered another injury setback: he picked up a calf strain.

Seven months out did not make Gary stronger: it seems he will never return… Gary Speed’s challenge did not seem so horrible at that time but the England man still hasn’t recovered from it and his fitness now even ceased to be a major worry: it’s just something we accepted would never be the same.

Yet it’s still unbelievable that after perennial crocked Louis Saha returned with a delightfull pass at the Emirates, our skipper has still no chance of featuring in the first team. Another injury now firmly establishes him as the new glass-leg, having taken over from Saha.

‘Unfortunately Gary’s got a little calf strain again,’ Sir Alex told a press conference. ‘It’s a real dampener for the boy and us. I don’t think it’s a long one, but it is a setback.’

Not a long one? That’s what we believed in March… it turned out to be a rather long one. I wish a quick recovery for Gary but my brain tells me he is unlikely to ever play a major part in United’s campaign now.
