Manchester United captain Gary Neville might be back in action soon, having not played since March 17.

Initially it had been thought he was going to miss two weeks but hasn’t played ever since and it’s six months’ absence now. But Sir Alex confirmed today that the 32-year-old rigth-back is back in full training.

‘Gary will be training with us this week for the first time. He’s been working hard on his fitness but he’s now fully into the football side of things as well. It’s pleasing news because it’s been a long time for the lad. We’re very, very pleased.

‘He’s been unlucky and just had one injury on top of another. It’s just an accumulation of small injuries that has set him back. Hopefully he’s now on the mend and we’re looking forward to having him back.’

Funnily enough, his return comes at a time when Brown seems to really come to terms with his role as right-back, two good contributions at Sporting and against Chelsea showed that he’s now at ease with this position. But it will be a relief to see Gary back, that’s clear. No need to rush him back, though: Brown is doing a fine job.
