Today is the first day, officially, of the managerial reign of David Moyes.

Having not officially welcomed David to Old Trafford I guess now is the ideal time.

With his feet under the table, as they say, speculation is bound to increase as to who will be his first signing.

Today also marks the official opening of the transfer window, although I doubt whether any ceremony aided by a fanfare of brass instruments heralds the occurrence.

But, it`ll be interesting to see if Moyes does land Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Leighton Baines or any of the other names mentioned in the previous weeks.

However, good money is going on Ezequiel Garay as being the first signing of the Moyes era with it being mentioned that Benfica, having signed his successor – Lisandro Ezequiel Lopez from Arsenal de Sarandi are now ready to do business.

The Argentine centre-back is valued at £17 million and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on numerous occasions in the last six months, it just remains to be seen whether a deal will be struck or whether the media have been playing us for fools all along!
