With a new era upon us, the Louis van Gaal era, was last night an eye-opener as to what Manchester United supporters can expect next season.

Van Gaal, in charge of the Dutch side, saw his charges emphatically thrash the reigning World Cup holders, Spain.

The manner in which Van Gaal`s total football swept aside the team many believe are genuine contenders for the 2014 World Cup, will give us all a lift as we try to forget the horrors of our season under David Moyes.

Leading the charge last night, as the Dutch completely overwhelmed the Spanish was Robin van Persie with our striker scoring what many are championing as the best headed goal in the World Cup Finals.

Aided by the excellent Danny Blind and Arjen Robben, Holland showed that under Louis Van Gaal they have a chance of going far in this competition.

The only downside being that although we had, apparently, expressed an interest in bring Arjen Robben to Old Trafford it seems as if it is a deal that is going nowhere, which is, in my opinion, a crying shame.
