The inference that Jose Mourinho would like to add another centre-back to his squad, ahead of the season starting, has already seen us run an article implying players must be sold before any more big-money buys are sanctioned.

But with that expected to be the case in the weeks before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August, is Jose Fonte the man Mourinho wants to bring to Old Trafford?

Fonte, 32-years of age, has established himself as a member of the Southampton back-four and with speculation linking the player with a move to Manchester United, Fonte has spoken about the speculation.

The media vehicle ESPN< has picked up on some quotes that Fonte gave to the news outlet Mais Futeball, Click Here, the quotes reading,

‘If the interest is there, it is a reason to be flattered to be associated with a club like Manchester United.

‘But I have a contract with Southampton, and I’m just focused on my work, to make a great season. I will not deny that Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world and that it makes me happy to be associated with it. But to be Manchester United’s player is a big difference.’

Fonte was part of the Portugal team that beat France in the final of the recent Euro 2016 Finals, but at 32, I kind of suspect that he`s not the man for Manchester United, but what`s your opinion on Fonte, would his arrival get your approval?

Here at Vital Manchester United we`d be delighted to read your opinions on the subject matter.
