Darren Fletcher`s fight to shake off the debilitating chronic bowel problem that has blighted his career has taken another step.

After getting back into first team action earlier this season, the club have announced that the 28 year-old Scottish international has had corrective surgery on the problem that will see him miss the remainder of the season.

Speaking about the situation, the club has issued a statement that reads,

“This was a planned procedure. While it is frustrating for both Darren and the club that he won`t be able to contribute further during this campaign, this decision has been taken in the best interests of his long term health.”

“We look forward to him returning next season with this problem firmly behind him.”

Our best wishes go to Darren and we hope that the operation proves to be a success.
