It’s not CSKA’s fault but whenever we play them the focus is not on the game but rather on our next league fixture. When we went to Moscow all the talk was about Anfield; now we’re set to welcome the Russians at Old Trafford but the game pales into insignificance compared to our showdown at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Therefore it is unlikely that Fergie will risk aggravating minor injuries so those struggling are not expected to start. Dimitar Berbatov has picked up an injury in the 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and could miss out while Wayne Rooney may miss the game due to the birth of his first child, Kai.

With progress from the group almost secured, it would be a surprise if Sir Alex risked Berba’s fitness ahead of the Chelsea game so an Owen-Welbeck strike partnership looks a realistic possibility. And considering how badly CSKA played on their own ground, it might not represent much of a handicap to our chances.

There are problems in the defence as well, with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic still doubtful but Gary Neville is fit and available and will probably start. Fellow veteran Ryan Giggs will probably miss out but he’s got a chance of making Sunday’s trip to Stamford Bridge. Owen Hargreaves is still out but hopefully not for long now.
