The Berbatov transfer saga must draw to a close soon – at least because the transfer window will close on August 31. But it looks like that the striker will get his wish.

News of the World reports that United have made a final, Ł25M bid for the Bulgarian striker and are now waiting for Spurs’s response. Fergie and Gill were no doubt encouraged by the fact that Berbatov had been left out of the Spurs squad for the game against Sunderland because Juande Ramos believes the striker is not focused enough.

Such a statement is likely to mean that Berbatov has no future at Spurs – his boss believes his effect is detrimental to the rest of the squad and their relationship appears to be close to breaking point. With one week to go and no other bidder in sight it is unlikely that Spurs will risk losing that Ł25m which is very good money. They cannot really play the hard game any more – they’ve got little choice. The sensible thing would be to accept the bid and bade farewell to Berbatov.
