Our youngsters, albeit in the end, produced the goods last night.

In fact the starting eleven that took to the field of play last night was, as I commented in the match report, the second youngest United eleven selected by Sir Alex Ferguson in our Premier League history with an average age of 23 years and 191 days.

After the victory, Sir Alex purred about his faith in the youngsters, remarking to those media hacks in attendance at his post match interview,

“I am pleased with that because it shows we still believe in young players. We always have the confidence to play our young players but this group have fantastic ability.”

Are United on the verge of another team being built that could go on to dominate English football?

As for the game itself, Sir Alex tentatively added,

“It was a really fast game in the first half and really end to end and the possession was very even. In the second half we really took off and it was a fantastic performance from us.”

Not sure fantastic is the word, maybe in patches but over the full ninety minutes. But, as they say, Rome wasn`t built in a day!
