David Beckham said in his TV programme on Tuesday that he was ‘shocked and disappointed’ at Sir Alex. And the United manager has had another major bust up to contend with.

Manchester United doctor Mike Stone has left Old Trafford.

It has emerged that Stone, the man under treating Wayne Rooney, has had his employment with United terminated with immediate effect.

Amazingly, it is believed Ferguson has grown increasingly unhappy at the number of positive bulletins being released on Rooney’s condition.

Although most of the statements have been attributed to the England doctor Leif Sward, Stone has been liaising closely with the Swede.

‘We can confirm Dr Stone has left the club,’ read the statement.

‘There was a difference of opinion on a non-footballing and non-clinical issue, as a result of which Dr Stone felt it to be in his and the club’s best interests for him to leave.

‘The difference was over a non-clinical issue and had nothing whatsoever to do with any medical treatment to a Manchester United player.’

Meanwhile Beckham said he was gutted when he returned to Old Trafford after scoring the winner for England against Greece, that took his country to the European Championships, only to have Ferguson knock the wind out of his sails.

As Beckham filled every front page of every paper in the land, Beckham said: ‘Ferguson said he couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about, and it was just an average goal’.
