Down in Durban, with Manchester United about to kick start their pre-season fixture campaign, Sir Alex Ferguson has that look in his eyes.

As the gaffer prepares to embark on another season, thereby prolonging a managerial career that has no end in sight, the gaffer has re-iterated that the biggest ambition for the coming season is to wrestle that Premier League title back from our neighbours, Manchester City.

Sir Alex, addressing the media, reminded everybody that United possess a remarkable recovery trait, commenting,

“If you look back over different periods you see we recover.”

“When Arsenal won the title from us in 1998 we went and won the treble the next year.”

“We accepted that challenge and did something about it.”

“Then Chelsea came along and got off to a flier in the league for the first two years.”

“We changed our pre-season a little to make sure we got off to quick starts. That allowed us to get the title back.”

“That`s happened three times in the last 14 or 15 years. Recovery is so important and the same applies this season.”

“We want to recover the title – it`s an important part of the history of our club over the last 20 years. We either win the title or come second.”

“We have to recover, as we`ve done many times, and that`s our target this year. Priority number one is to win the title back.”

If we are to do just that it`ll take a remarkable effort. We`re not kidding ourselves that it`ll be easy, we face stiff competition from our neighbours and you have to accept that the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea will also be in with a shout whilst you shouldn`t discount two possible dark-horses in the shape of Newcastle and Tottenham.

All-in-all it promises to be a competitive but great season ahead of us!
