It`s the morning after the night before and it`s not getting any easier.

The realization that not only was we beaten by Manchester City, but ruthlessly thrashed, made it a long sleepless night.

On reflection and viewing the replay again, I know I`m a glutton for punishment, it`s plainly obvious that despite being the reigning champions we were so naïve.

After the game, Sir Alex Ferguson obliged to face the press, mused over just that, commenting,

“We dominated the game and played some brilliant football.”

“It was hard to believe we were 1-0 down but that`s retrievable. The sending off was a killer blow. After that we kept attacking.”

“It`s all right playing the history books but common sense has to come into it. We went to 3-1?..4-1, we should have settled for that.”

“We just kept attacking. They were attacking three versus two.”

“At times it was two v three at the back and that was suicidal, crazy.”

“I thought with the experience we`ve got – Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra – they would..but we just kept attacking. Sometimes there has to be common sense about it.”

“We kept attacking when we went 4-1 down and we should have just said ‘We`ve had our day`

I can only hope that Sir Alex was referring to yesterday rather than the season as one game does not a season make!
