It`s interesting to see how the red top press has turned around a few words from Sir Alex, turned it into something akin to a rant and then seem surprised when the boss isn`t charged by the Football Association for those words.

Following on from the dreadful decision to penalize Rio Ferdinand and award a penalty, Sir Alex Ferguson wasn`t slow in letting the world know what he thought about the decision, commenting afterwards,

“I didn`t think anyone in the ground thought it was a penalty, apart from the assistant referee. The referee thought it was a corner. He was nearer to it.”

“He was only eight yards away. It was an absolute travesty. Everyone, including the referee, was astounded.”

“He was put in a terrible position. Why can`t the referee overrule when it is only eight yards away?”

“The problem is that the referees are full-time and the linesman are not, and whether he ever gets a game again, the assistant referee, is not for me to decide but it was an absolutely shocking decision.”

It was but some might say it`s a case of swings and roundabouts but, off the top of my head, I can`t recall the last time we didn`t benefit from a huge slice of luck, apart from when a certain own goal was up there as our second top scorer!
