It remains to be seen whether Wayne Rooney faces disciplinary action after the incident with the Wigan midfielder, James McCarthy.

Certainly, those on ‘Match of the Day’ were pretty quick to condemn the England striker.

Sir Alex Ferguson though had his own thoughts on the matter, commenting after the 4-0 win at the DW Stadium,

“Because it`s Rooney, people will raise a campaign to get him hung by Tuesday or electrocuted or something like that. It`s unbelievable. People will try and get him up before the FA because that`s what they always do in these situations when it`s Wayne Rooney.”

“Referee Mark Clattenburg saw it and said it was an accident, there`s nothing to it.”

“We have big games coming up and people will try to make an issue of it.”

“But we just have to concentrate and focus on our game.”

Hopefully, it`ll all blow over!
