Does anyone else out there believe we could have played for another couple of hours and still not have beaten Palace last night?

It was one of those nights where there was more huff and puff than class and we`re left to reflect on what might have been rather than what was.

Having made ten changes to the eleven that drew with Newcastle on Saturday, Sir Alex Ferguson was a little apologetic after the defeat bemoaning the fact that his side hadn`t done themselves justice and that, once again, decisions hadn`t gone his way, although, fair credit to Sir Alex, he did praise the plucky visitors, remarking afterwards,

“I don`t know where to start with that. That was not a Manchester United performance and I`m very disappointed.”

“I don`t want to take anything away from Crystal Palace and hope they get to the final because they put in a fantastic, mammoth effort tonight.”

“Every one of their players worked his socks off to get to the semi-final, but I`m very disappointed.”

“I`m not going to go into the ins and outs of it, we were beaten and it was a very disappointing night.”

“When it went to extra time, I felt we must win it, but it was not to be.” Their second goal was offside, and you could see that from the cameras.”

“We`re not getting any luck from linesmen just now.”

“But I can`t take anything away from Palace. They fought hard and deserved it.”

“We had a lot of possession but didn`t do anything with it. We tried to play too many short passes. I`d like to apologize to the fans.”

Fair play to the boss, is all I can say and let`s look forward to the next Premier League game shall we!
