Paul Scholes and Patrice Evra picked up injures as United now have nine players in the treatment room… but the Reds still destroyed Dinamo Kyiv, earning glowing praise from SAF.

Arsenal’s 7-0 win over Sparta will steal the headlines of course but who cares? I’m over the moon with the way we disposed of the Ukrainians despite the injury problems and Fergie feels very much the same.

‘The attacking play was excellent,’ he told ITV. ‘You can`t ask for better than that.

We could have scored a lot of goals, but all in all I`ve got to be pleased with that result.’

‘What`s pleasing is that, no matter which side we`re playing, they`re adapting, they`re getting on with it.’

‘They`re not worrying about what formation we`re playing or what team we`re playing because they`ve all got the ability and there`s a great team spirit about the place, and I think that`s important in the situation we`re in at the moment.’

Last season we almost screwed up qualification after collecting nine points from three games but it won’t happen again. Sir Alex promised that and there’s the tiny difference that we have two home games coming up, unlike last year when we faced two consecutive away games at this stage. Beating this Kyiv side at Old Trafford should be no problem and that would almost certainly seal not only qualification but the first spot of the group.
