For the second year running, Manchester United opened their account with a disappointing draw at home. Last year it was a goalless draw with Reading and now a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United.

Obafemi Martins opened the scoring before Darren Fletcher’s instant reply midway through the first half but despite exerting pressure, they were unable to capitalise.
