Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted with the 1-0 win over Liverpool as the Reds moved one step closer of reclaiming the Premiership crown.

United were pretty much outplayed at Anfield but stole a result nevertheless and Sir Alex was understandably elated when O’Shea scored the only goal.

‘To be honest Liverpool played fantastic,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘We were very lucky today, we had a lot of narrow escapes.

‘Really it was one of those games in which I think the pressing of Liverpool upset our rhythm a bit, and they’ll be feeling very unlucky today. I think they were.

‘It is massive. I said that last week, that it happens in Championships.

‘You need a bit of luck to win Championships, there’s no question about that, and I think we’ve got that in the last two weeks.’

He could not give any details about Rooney’s injury. The England striker was clattered by Jamie Carragher and had to leave the pitch with a bleeding thigh.

‘Wayne Rooney’s got a knee injury that we’ll have to see about tomorrow,’ said the boss ‘Wayne will go for a scan. It was a bad tackle – Carragher got him right on the knee. We’ll have to see how he is.’
