Sir Alex Ferguson has underlined yet again the importance of consistent performances in the hectic period of December if a team really want to win the league.

United are to of the table, three points clear and flying high, recording their sixth consecutive league victory on Saturday at Ewood Park. But the real challenge still awaits us – Chelsea visit Old Trafford on the 26th of November and it can easily turn out to be a decisive game. Ferguson, though, thinks the most important is that the team keep their shape in the winter period.

‘The consistency factor comes in to play now,’ said Ferguson.
‘After the game with Chelsea you then go into the December programme – which is always congested, tense and exhausting for everyone.

‘There has been a real increase in momentum from us and the performances on the field are justifying a lot of people’s optimism at the club.
‘But I don’t want them to get too confident because there are a lot of potholes ahead and they will trip up somewhere.

‘The important thing is how you recover. You have to have the consistency that champions need and the kind that we’ve had many times in the past.’
