Manchester United have been hit by criticism this week from former player Owen Hargreaves, after the England international made a goalscoring debut for fierce rivals City on Wednesday.

The ex-Bayern Munich man has effectively been out of the game for three years due to chronic knee problems, claiming specialists had told him United’s medical staff had prescribed the wrong treatment, and crossed Manchester after a vigorous medical at Eastlands.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Stoke game, where United will look to maintain their 100% start to the season, Sir Alex Ferguson has hit back at the Canadian-born midfielder’s claim and defended his medical set up, who he claims have been absolutely vital in the success of the club in recent seasons.
