Sir Alex did not reveal why Anderson and Saha had not been involved against Spurs but confirmed they would be back for Saturday.

Well, I’ll believe it when I see it. United had problems of every kind so far: bad form, bad luck, missed chances, injuries, Ronaldo’s suspension… but yesterday we were finally lucky, Ronaldo has only one more game to serve and some of the wounded are coming back.

Ben Foster and Ji-Sung Park are very far away but to be honest we do not sorely miss them though I’m a big fan of Park and would have loved to see Foster challenging Van der Sar.

Amid all our current problems, Rooney’s return would be the greatest blessing yet he’s far away. Fergie said Rooney wanted to play against Spurs and predicted he would be back in 3-4 weeks’ time. Good news I think.

And finally, Anderson and Saha. I had lamented their absence from the Spurs game before and as a response SAF confirmed they will play against Sunderland.

‘We have some excellent players to come back, so we have to be patient,’ the boss is quoted in Manchester Evening News.

‘Louis Saha and Anderson will be fit for next Saturday’s game and Gary Neville will be back in a couple of weeks.

‘We are getting there but it is just going to take a bit of time.’

But you know, don’t you, Fergie, that they must play now? I for one do not want to see them getting their first taste of competitive action this season against Everton or – horribile dictu – Chelsea. Sunderland would be perfect opposition for throwing them into the deep water.
