The rumours linking Rio Ferdinand with a move to the MLS and Chicago Fire, continue to generate column inches.

The rumours are based on the theory that if, as expected, David Beckham leaves LA Galaxy shortly, then Rio Ferdinand is perceived as being the high profile face to fill the void.

Ferdinand, who is 33 next month, has a contract that expires at the end of next season and amongst those urging Rio to give it a try is a player who was once released by Everton, Andy Iro.

Talking up the possibility of Rio going Stateside, Iro has remarked to the red-top media,

“Being a defender myself I`m a huge admirer of Rio Ferdinand and it would be great to see him in the MLS.”

It probably would, for some parties, but I`m of the belief that Rio has unfinished business at Old Trafford and would prefer to soldier on!
