Across the English Channel yesterday, whilst England assisted by several Manchester United players struggled to provide any entertainment against the Republic of Ireland, two European neighbours were involved in a titanic friendly encounter.

Belgium travelled the short distance to take on France, on French soil. In a seven goal thriller, Belgium edged home 4-3. with our ownMarouane Fellaini scoring a brace in the first half.

Fellaini`s first goal came after seventeen minutes, with a left-footed finish and doubled his personal tally three minutes before the break with a towering header.

But, after opening up a substantial lead, with Chelsea`s Eden Hazard scoring the fourth for the classy Belgian side from the penalty spot, France mounted a comeback that saw Belgium having to hang on to take a memorable victory in the build-up to a Euro 2016 qualifier against Wales this week.
