Manchester United moved to the top of Group H last night with a win, in Romania, against the Romanian champions FC Cluj.

But as has been the case all season, United made heavy weather of taking all three points once again having to come back from a goal down.

With Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie starting for the first time together, it was the Dutch striker who was to take the scoring honours with a brace.

Those all too familiar early failings though saw us go a goal down when Pantelis Kapetanos netted from a cross from Modou Sougou, in the fourteenth minute.

But, thankfully, United were level just before the half hour mark when Van Persie reacted smartly to force home a cross from Rooney, although it looked to have come off the Dutchman via a mixture of head and shoulder.

Victory was assured shortly after half time when Van Persie scored the goal of the game, arrogantly converting a searching cross, steering the ball into the bottom far corner, a goal that brought the following praise from Sir Alex Ferguson,

“It was a fantastic finish but what a nice ball from Wayne. I thought he hit it too far in front of Robin but his speed then to get to the ball and his deftness of touch were incredible.”

And on pairing Van Persie with Rooney, the boss added,

“Everyone thought it was going to be a miracle combination. The best thing about them is they can both turn a game. The strength of our squad is in attacking positions.”

And Van Persie`s view on the goal,

“The second one was maybe my best United goal. It felt good when it came off my boot.”

“Everything starts with a good pass so I thank Wayne. Not many people can give a pass like that.”

Although United top the group, I reckon the challenges we`ll face going ahead in this competition will surpass what we`ve overcome so far, how about you?
