Young Northern Ireland defender Johnny Evans is set to return to Manchester United next season after impressing whilst on loan at Sunderland.

The 19 year old told journalists at the Belfast Telegraph ‘The manager has made it clear that I won’t be going out on loan again. I’ll be back at United and we’ll see what happens. I’ll be involved in pre-season and he has more or less said that I will get games.’

Evans spent the beginning of the season loan at Belgian feeder club Royal Antwerp, where his performances gained him a place in Lawrie Sanchez`s Northern Ireland squad. His reputation began to soar, and after much speculation, former Manchester United legend, Roy Keane snapped up the promising defender for the remainder of the season where he helped guide Sunderland back to the Premiership as champions.

Though Evans is set to face stiff competition for places from the likes of Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Neville, Heinze (if he`s still there), Silvestre, O`shea and Brown, Evans is confident that he can force his way onto the United squad.

I am a Manchester United fan and it has been my aim since I signed for the club to get into the first team. The incentive is there for me now and I want to be good enough to be playing for United‘.

The news of Evans return will be music to Sir Alex`s ears, whose aiming to re-build a new, young team to compensate for the impending loss of the likes of Scholes, Giggs, G.Neville and Solskjear, and in Johnny Evans, Sir Alex has a promising young defender who can play right across the back line, and he is without doubt a star in the waiting, even if his chances will be limited next season.
