After signing the Dutch flyer, Memphis Depay, it appears that Manchester united wanted to protect their latest asset.

Having paid out something in the region of £25 million for the player, it was suggested that it would be looked upon favourably if Depay didn`t play in the last two games of the Dutch season.

But it seems that whilst the two clubs, United and PSV Eindhoven, were prepared to play ball, the player had other ideas.

It appears that Depay played in the last two games as he had an ambition to finish as the top scorer in the top-flight of Dutch football with our £25 million man remarking about his disobedience,

“I wanted to play, but the club and Manchester United weren`t happy with that because of injuries.

“I wanted to become top scorer and break the total points record with PSV. So I absolutely wanted to play.

Such an attitude, with Sir Alex Ferguson in charge still, might well have brought the youngster his first taste of that famous Ferguson hairdryer!
