After being subjected to a plethora of chances created by the opposition this season, Saturday evening made a pleasurable change.

It`s fair to say that Swansea only created a couple of chances, one being that glaring miss by Scott Sinclair.

Perhaps that sudden drought when it comes to a multitude of chances being created against us is something to do with the fact that we`re now playing our previously formidable defensive partnership of Vidic and Ferdinand.

Post the 1-0 win at the Liberty Stadium, Nemanja Vidic had a few comments on why the sudden change around when it comes to reversing our defensive frailties, remarking,

“We are not a team that focuses on defence. We know we have to run both ways. We attack but when we lose the ball we have to get it back as well.”

“We are playing now as a group and this is the only thing we change.”

“Obviously we want to win the games with better results and to entertain people. We are Manchester United – we are not looking to play 1-0 and defend.”

“But I think it is a big thing as well when you don`t play well to win games, this shows spirit and the honesty of the team.”

“Game by game I think we are improving our passing game. In terms of possession we`re playing better.”

All valid points but perhaps the best point made by Vidic related to the belief that Manchester City, still five points ahead of us and still unbeaten, are racing away to a title triumph with Vidic reminding everybody,

“There is still a long way to go.”

“In 10 months, you can`t always play great football. There will be good days and bad days.”

Or as I mentioned last week, it`s got all the makings of the tortoise closing in on the hare and beating him at the post!
