Crystal Palace, having knocked us out in a previous round, crashed out of the Carling Cup on penalties last night.

Their failure to reach Wembley may have provided United with a golden opportunity though.

Reports reaching us infer that united will use their cup exit to try and secure a deal for their promising right-back, Nathanial Clyne.

The 20 year-old, who is out of contract this summer, is supposedly up for grabs for £3 million with Palace, although reluctant sellers, likely to take what they can before the lad leaves for free.

We`ll keep an eye on any developments.
