With the future of David De Gea still uncertain, speculation continues to grow about a possible replacement for the Spaniard.

Yesterday there were rumours sweeping the internet that Ed Woodward, Petr Cech and his agent has been seen together.

However, if De Gea is to leave Old Trafford for Real Madrid, could his successor already be in place?

At the re-match press conference, ahead of the trip t play Hull City this Sunday, Louis van Gaal gave the indication that could be the case, remarking about one Victor Valdes,

‘First we have to see if De Gea is leaving.

‘After that we shall talk about the other things. That he (Valdes) is good enough to be a Manchester United goalkeeper, of course that is the case. Otherwise he wouldn’t be here.’

Valdes certainly has an excellent pedigree and could be a worthy successor for a couple of seasons, but long term?

That`s another kettle of fish I`d say!
