The injury suffered by Anders Lindegaard, as we`ve mentioned before, provided David De Gea with the perfect chance to stamp his claim to be considered the automatic choice between the sticks.

Recent performances suggest that the Spaniard has focused on preserving that stats and a few quotes given ahead of the Europa League clash with Bilbao give an indication of how he coped with that spell on the bench, with the young keeper remarking,

“The time I spent on the bench when I was out of the team I used to reflect, think hard and regroup.”

“It made me more determined, so when I did get that opportunity to get back in the side I grabbed it with both hands.”

“The thing now is to keep this good form. You know you have one slight slip-up and you have quality waiting in the wings to grab their opportunity as well.”

In other words, complacency is not the order of the day!
