The reserves’ form is a bit worrying to be honest. They are boasting players like Danny Welbeck and Frederico Machede yet they are far, far away from the top. They lost their last game to Sunderland 1-0 but you could find positives, too.

And one of these is really, really good. Gary Neville completed 73 minutes of action (and could have scored but for Black Cats keeper Fulop) and is now looking forward to be involved with the first team.

“It`s great to be playing football again,” he told MUTV.

“That`s my second game in a couple of weeks and I seem to have come through it okay. In that sense it`s a real positive, although I want to get back into travelling with the first team.

“By next week I`d like to be involved with the first team, even if`s just travelling with the side and being part of it again.”

I have lost belief since long that Gary will ever return to play for the first team. But this glimmer of hope now is truly encouraging… perhaps we’ll really have our skipper back soon?
