With all the talk of Ronaldo`s move to Madrid boring us all to death in recent weeks; its refreshing to see some transfer news involving someone else – in this case Blackburn Rovers` striker Roque Santa Cruz.

The 26-year old has told press today of Manchester United`s interest. Speaking to Argentine daily newspaper ‘La Nacion`, Santa Cruz said:

“The interest from Manchester United is real but I’m busy now so my representatives will handle anything if there is a concrete offer.’

Though the Paraguayan still has 3 years left on his contract, the loss of Mark Hughes as manager is sure to see an exodus of players from Ewood Park; with Santa Cruz hot on the radar.

It is no doubt Santa Cruz was the most cost effective signing last season – with 24 goals preceding his £3.5 million move to Blackburn from Bayern Munich. Indeed, I for one would be very pleased if this signing were to materialise, with the tall, strong athletic ability of Santa Cruz exactly what we are in need of. At 26, he is still relatively young and certainly has his best years ahead of him. On top of this he has the experience Fergie has suggested we need, having won numerous titles at Bayern – albeit not enjoying a very productive goal-return with just 31 goals in 155 appearances.

However, I for one believe the 6 ft 3 in would be a success at United, and hope Fergie acts on his initial interest in him. Indeed, we may have to move fast, with Santa Cruz`s father revealing Blackburn received a bid for the striker from city Rivals, Manchester City at the beginning of the year – an interest expected to be even greater with the arrival of manager Mark Hughes.

“No club other than Manchester City has made an offer, because at the beginning of the year they offered ?14 million. His value will have gone up since then.”

He went on to say…

“If there is an offer we’d like to chat.”

So, could be set for a Manchester tug-of-war for the services of Santa Cruz? What do YOU think of his potential signing?
