Edwin van der Sar: Only superman could have prevented their first goal. Otherwise he was confident with crosses and palmed away Drogba’s free-kick easily. 7

Wes Brown: Almost headed Chelsea into an early lead… he was decidedly shaky in central defence after Vidic had to come off. Drogba’s aerial menace was too much for him. 6

Rio Ferdinand: Getting into a brawl wiht Mikel and co. at the end was quite unwise. His actual performance was good tho, he was solid throughout. 7

Nemanja Vidic: I’d like to play a big game with him spending 90 minutes on the pitch. A terribly unfortunate player.

Mikael Silvestre: I thought he played very well. We did not see much of Joe Cole and it must be a credit to the Frenchman. 7

Darren Fletcher: Probably United’s best player but he lost Ballack before the opening goal. However, if everyone else displayed the same urgency in pressing and tackling, we could have made life a lot more uncomfortable for Chelsea. 7

Michael Carrick: Needs a rest and it is a bit baffling that when everyone else is rotated, Carrick always stays in the starting eleven. He looked jaded and out of sorts. 5

Anderson: Another enforced substitution which came at the worst possible time. His energy, enthusiasm and most importantly, skill took us forward in the second half and I think we would have fared much better after the equaliser had he stayed on the pitch. 7

Luis Nani: Poor. Used his pace in the first half but constantly made the wrong decisions. Had he slid in Giggs when they were two on one on a break with, I think, ten minutes left, we could have even won the game. He opted for running at Cech and in the end got tackled. Summed up his afternoon. 5

Wayne Rooney: Got very little service but always kept the ball well and finished his only chance clinically. We can ALWAYS rely on him when the stakes are at the highest. 7

Ryan Giggs: An improved performance – but still mediocre. In the first half he could have had a golden chance had the linesman not adjudged him, incorrectly, to be offside. In the second half his passing improved and even had a good shot but nothing special. 5

Owen Hargreaves: Kept Kalou quiet at right-back – the diving and moaning of the Ivorian (Dutchman?) was priceless to see. He disappeared after O’Shea came on. 6

Cristiano Ronaldo: Should have had a penalty one minute after his introduction and had a shot cleared off the line. However, he had little chance to make an impact as United withdrew into their shell. 6

John O’Shea: As always, he was reliable and did not commit mistakes. That’s what we can ask from him. 6
