United came back from the dead to get a point at Stamford Bridge this afternoon!

Trailing 3-0, two penalties form Wayne Rooney and a header from Javier Hernandez were enough to rescue a situation that looked lost.

For the fixture Sir Alex Ferguson was able to recall Wayne Rooney, David De Gea and Ashley Cole to the starting eleven.

United – De Gea, Rafael, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Young, Rooney and Welbeck.

Subs – Amos, Berbatov, Park, Fabio, Scholes, Pogba, Hernandez

First Half – United kicked the game off and started well. There were screams for too early penalties, both of which were ignored by Howard Webb. The first coming after Young`s shirt was clearly pulled by Bosingwa and the second when Cahill fouled Welbeck.

De Gea showed some early nerves by not quite getting enough power to a fisted clearance but United breathed a sigh of relief when Meireles shot hit the side-netting, In a hesitant first half hour, the best moments saw Cech just get to a curling Young shot whilst an out of form Torres shot woefully wide from some distance out.

United, pushing forward with pace, thought they`d got in when Rooney slide an inch perfect pass towards Welbeck but ivanovic produced a great interception to deny Welbeck a shooting chance. Just past the half-hour mark we fell behind..

Sturridge was allowed to wriggle his way t the by-line and when he pulled across back it hit De Gea before then hitting the unfortunate Evans to go into the net.

Chelsea 1 United 0 (Evans og – 34 minutes)

In the ascendancy the home side then saw Sturridge unleash a blistering shot that De Gea did well to save before ending the half as the better of the two teams.

Cech, in the latter stages, was forced into three good saves. The first saw the keeper get a hand to a curling shot form Young, the second saw the keeper push away a Welbeck shot and the third saw him turn around the post a low shot form Rooney.

Half Time – Chelsea 1 United 0

United were out early for the second half but were soon to fall 2-0 down. Less than thirty seconds had been played before Torres played a good cross in and Mata met it with a ferocious volley that gave De Gea no chance.

Chelsea 2 United 0 (Mata – 46 minutes)

If United were looking to steady the ship they were in for a rude awakening four minutes later. Evra was penalised for a foul on Sturridge and Mata stuck the ball into the middle of the box where Luiz rose and saw his header deflect off Ferdinand to give Chelsea what seemed an unassailable lead.

Chelsea 3 United 0 (Luiz – 50 minutes)

But all credit to United, they didn`t meekly give up and instead worked their way back into the game. In the fifty-sixth minute Evra advanced into the area and was upended by Sturridge.

Rooney stepped up and smashed an unstoppable penalty high into the net.

Chelsea 3 United 1 (Rooney pen – 57 minutes)

Sir Alex made a change, bringing on the wise head of Scholes and taking off Rafael having already introduced Hernandez for Young.

De Gea reacted well to save a Mata shot after some incisive passing from Luiz had opened up our defence. Whilst Rooney, becoming more and more influential in the game; drilled a shot wide from outside the area.

With sixty-seven minutes played we were awarded a second penalty when Welbeck tumbled over after a challenge from Ivanovic. Once again Rooney stepped up but this time his spot kick was placed the other side of Cech and the arrears had been further reduced.

Chelsea 3 United 2 (Rooney pen – 68 minutes)

Hernandez had a decent chance to get United level, after Romeu had given the ball away, but the Mexican shot wide. De Gea, his confidence growing by the minute, turned a long range shot from Essien over the bar before, as we entered the last ten minutes, Welbeck headed wide from a corner.

But United were to get level with eighty-four minutes played. Rooney made some space and his fierce shot was turned away by Cech. Giggs was lurking out wide and his cross fell perfectly between Luiz and Cahill for Hernandez to head home.

Chelsea 3 United 3 (Hernandez – 84 minutes)

As the game headed into stoppage time, De Gea made two fantastic saves. The first saw the Spaniard somehow get a hand to an excellent free kick from Gea to turn it wide and the second saw him turn a pile-driver from Cahill just over the bar.
